Suburban Express is a bus service which operates between Champaign and the Chicago Suburbs and between Charleston and the Chicago Suburbs. We've been in business since November, 1983. Our customers are mainly U of I and ISU students.

Driving for Suburban Express has several benefits over other driving jobs:

• Most of our work is done at a time when you're normally awake.
• Most trips start and end in Champaign, so you'll be home almost every night.
• Our buses ride like cars, so you won't have to put your internal organs back where they belong at the end of a run - like you might after driving a truck.
• Our trips go to the same suburban malls each week, so you're not always trying to find your way to an unfamiliar place.
• Our buses are clean and well-maintained.

Compensation

Coach Drivers earn $17-20/hr depending on qualifications and experience.

Drivers with strong communication skills who demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment, and who are safe and reliable may be invited to do additional non-driving work, such as supervising loadings, training new drivers, etc.

Benefits

Full-Time Coach drivers:

• $1500 Signing bonus, paid out at month 6 and month 12
• Health insurance allowance of $300/month
• Steady paycheck

Part-Time Coach drivers::

• $500 Signing bonus, paid out at month 6 and month 12
• Steady paycheck

Schedule

Full-time drivers will typically be scheduled to work five days per week, on average. Weekend availability is essential.

Part-time drivers will be scheduled consistent with employee's availability and our needs. Part time drivers will generally work 2-3 days per week, mostly Thursday-Sunday.

Training

Training takes approximately 40 hours. Training scheduling is flexible. Training is paid at minimum wage. Drivers who successfully complete training receive a $400 bonus after completion of first ten solo trips.

Candidates who do not possess a P endorsement on their CDL will receive free training leading up to P endorsement.

Home Base

Our garage is located in north Urbana. You'll report to work at this location. Free parking and free beverages are available at the garage. All equipment is stored indoors in a heated, insulated building.

Requirements

Coach Driver

• Class B or better IL CDL
• Excellent driving record
• Two years of bus, semi, or large straight truck experience
• No criminal convictions
• High school diploma (college classwork a big plus)
• Must have your own cell phone (not shared)
• Must be a healthy non-smoker
• Must be at least 30 years old

• Complete DOT physical
• Drug test
• Driving record check
• Background check

• Full-time coach drivers
• Part-time coach drivers - Must be available Saturdays and Sundays.
